Malnutrition is one of the major public health problems seriously affecting children in developing countries in general, and in Burkina Faso in particular.
Since 2009, the government, with the support of its technical and financial partners, has been committed to strengthening the nutritional surveillance system by organizing regular national nutritional surveys.
These surveys are a decision-making and planning tool in the field of nutrition. Burkina Faso has drawn up a National Economic and Social Development Plan (PNDES) for the period 2016-2020. One of the expected effects of the PNDES is to improve the nutritional status of women and children under 5. One of the instruments used to monitor the results of the plan is the national nutritional survey carried out annually.
