Analysis of Chèque Santé extension in Cameroon

As part of the fight against Maternal, Neonatal and Infant Mortality, the State of Cameroon has been working with AFD and KFW to set up the Chèque Santé project since June 2015. It has helped reduce in-hospital maternal and neonatal mortality.

On April 12, 2023, the Government of Cameroon through the Ministry of Public Health officially launched phase 1 of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the Eastern Region to guarantee access to quality health care and services for the entire population. The package of services covered by this major intervention, now in Phase 1, includes several healthcare services, including the Chèque Santé mechanism already implemented in the northern part of the country. With a view to extending the Chèque Santé (CS) project to the southern and eastern regions of Cameroon, and in order to anticipate the various problems to be encountered, P4H- GIZ commissioned a preliminary assessment. The main objective is to learn all the lessons from the level of ownership of the CS mechanism itself by the various players, and to assess at this stage the level of implementation of CS activities.
