With information obtained from household surveys, the study aims to measure the impact of affiliation to either private or public health insurance on out-of-pocket health expenditure in Peru between 2007-2019.
The research results show that the variables adults over 65 years of age and household member with a chronic disease increase household out-of-pocket spending on health. Variables related to affiliation to private insurance or public insurance (either the Seguro Integral de Salud or the Seguro Social del Perú) decrease such out-of-pocket spending.
