The attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) requires that no one must be left behind and that all people regardless of their social economic and demographic characteristics have access to quality healthcare. Therefore UHC means that elderly rural populations should enjoy the same healthcare benefits as the rest of the population. In this study, the authors investigate barriers to accessing health facilities and health service delivery barriers faced by the elderly population in Namibia. By considering and identifying unique issues (extended family system) affecting access to health care for elderly people targeted policy can be implemented and hence, achieve a more equitable access to health care services.
