Co-payment is required for visits to general practitioners and for collecting prescriptions. This study aims to investigate the impact of user co-payments on access to health care, with a focus on inequities for indigenous Māori populations in New Zealand.
Findings revealed that, compared to non-Māori, Māori are more prone to experience financial barrier when accessing primary care and collecting prescriptions. Based on study findings, it is imperative to urgently reform New Zealand’s health financing system to remove financial barriers in access to health care.
