Health Care Financing Law of Latvia, effective since January 2018

This law was adopted on 14.12.2017, and is effective since 01.01.2018. The Health Care Financing Law of Latvia relies on related two laws: the Medical Treatment Law and the Law on Patients’ Rights.

The purpose of this law is to ensure sustainable health care financing, which is based on the solidary involvement of the entire society in responsible tax payment, in order to promote health care financing in accordance with good international practice and its effective use, thus promoting the availability of health care and the improvement of public health indicators.

This law determines the general principles and structure of the health care financing system in Latvia. The latest amendment was adopted on March 19, 2024.
