Since the introduction of Health technology assessment (HTA) in 1990, it has played an increasingly crucial role in supporting healthcare decision-making in China. This article provides an overview of HTA activities in China. It elaborates the development and current status of HTA, including HTA related research and publications in China. In addition, it shows the impact of HTA on policy decision making, including informing planning, budgeting, and management for both technology and reimbursement of benefits packages. This article identifies challenges and opportunities for future development of HTA and discuss on how it can be further strengthened.
