Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Health Insurance

This is the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Insuring Health (I-1343), signed on May 21, 1996 by Algirdas Brazauskas, President of the Republic of Lithuania. The attached file contains the latest amendments introduced by Law No. XIV-2335 on December 14, 2023.

This Law establishes the types of health insurance in Lithuania based on the compulsory health insurance system. The law defines the persons insured under compulsory health insurance, the principles of budget formation, defines the functions of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund and other bodies implementing compulsory medical insurance, defines the rights and obligations of persons insured under compulsory health insurance. The law also describes the institutions that supervise compulsory health insurance, the procedure for considering disputes, and defines the additional (voluntary) health insurance.
