Article 73 “establishes social insurance for the benefit of manual and intellectual workers, regulated by the system of compulsory contribution of the State, employers and workers, in order to protect them against the risks of illness, disability, maternity, old age, death and other contingencies determined by law. The administration and government of the social insurances shall be in charge of an autonomous institution, called the Costa Rican Social Security Fund. The funds and reserves of the social insurances may not be transferred or used for purposes other than those for which they were created. Insurance against professional risks shall be exclusively for the account of the employers and shall be governed by special provisions”.
