Namibia is a signatory to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 3 states that member states must ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all, at all ages. One of the targets under this goal is to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health care services, and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines. The government of Namibia is making concerted efforts towards the achievement of UHC, and is assessing the different sustainable financing options for achieving this ambitious goal. This ministry of health brief explores the different financing mechanism that will make it possible to fund health interventions sustainably in Namibia.
