Tanzania allocates earmarked taxes to fund health insurance for vulnerable groups

Tanzania’s newly released budget allocates special earmarked taxes to fund health insurance for vulnerable groups, including those who cannot afford to pay, pregnant women, and children under five, as part of the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Act 2023.

  1. 10% excise duty on the value of the stake on betting in gaming and national lotteries. This measure is expected to allocate approximately 29,522 million  shillings
  2. 2% of the excise duty revenue is collected from beauty products, carbonated drinks, and alcoholic beverages (beer and spirits). This measure is expected to allocate approximately 18,800 million shillings.
