The section describing health financing in Austria, pages 31-35, presents healthcare financing sources as a solidarity-based combination of income-dependent social insurance contributions, taxpayers’ money and private direct and indirect co-payments. This section gives an overview of health expenditure outlook for Austria (for years 2016-2017). It concludes by stating “Health is not only a “cost factor”, but also a significant component of the national economy” and describing the role of the health sector on employment, production and economy overall.
