This study aims to analyze total health expenditure (THE), government health expenditure, per capita government expenditure by government during 1990 to 2020 in China. In addition, this study also analyzes social health expenditures per THE and the structure of health financing of 31 regions in China during the same period. Findings highlight a rising trend of THE and a share of government health expenditures in THE. A variation of social health expenditures per THE and per capita government expenditures were observed across regions. The study suggests the policy adjustment by regions to address equity in health financing.
