Towards mapping the fiscal space: Health sector financing strategy in Mozambique

The policy note published by N’weti and Wemos addresses Mozambique’s critical need to increase domestic financial resources for its health system. As the country faces major health challenges including high rates of poverty, and infectious diseases, with a significant portion of its health budget relying on external funding set to decrease by 2030, the note offers strategic recommendations. These include:

  • Exploring new revenue sources, particularly from extractive sectors
  • Improving fiscal planning and
  • Leveraging private sector contributions.

The goal is to strengthen Mozambique’s health system by ensuring sustainable and equitable health financing, aligned with national priorities and the extended Health Sector Strategic Plan (PESS).
