Universal health coverage in China part 1: progress and gaps

This article is the first part of the series. This research article comprehensively evaluated China‘s progress towards universal health coverage over the past two decades by identifying the achievements and gaps in service coverage and financial risk protection that are crucial to achieve universal health coverage goals by 2030.

The four areas of service coverage were assessed: (1) reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH), (2) infectious diseases, (3) NCDs, and (4) service capacity and access, including financial risk protection.

The article stated that despite remarkable achievement towards UHC—with indicators for RMNCH, infectious diseases, and service capacity and access, China has crucial gaps in the service coverage of chronic disease prevention and treatment, mental health services, rehabilitation services, and palliative care.
