In a bid to make healthcare more accessible and reduce the time in service delivery, the Government of Australia is investing 100 million AUD to advance medical technology in the country. The investment is to improve diagnosis and treatment in three specific areas i.e. stroke, epilepsy and lung disease with inadvertently will include COVID-19.
The Government provided 1.5 million each to develop 10 research proposals amongst which three were finally accepted. The funding will be split across three research projects led by senior researchers at the University of Melbourne, the Australian Lung Health Initiative, and Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
Each Project has been given a timeline of 10 years. The initial 100 million AUD have been split in the following way
The Stroke Golden Hour: Delivering Urgent Stroke Care to Australians: $40,167,052
4D Functional Diagnosis: A new frontier in lung health for children: $28,867,540
Australian Epilepsy Project: $30,080,129
‘The Government has allocated a total of $570 million to the program, over ten years from 2019-20.’
