Over 80 health experts and partners have initiated the development of a roadmap to enhance Africa’s health financing ecosystem, aiming for better efficiency and equity by 2030. Convened by WHO’s Regional Office for Africa, Africa CDC, and the African Constituency Bureau of the Global Fund, this effort focuses on optimizing the impact of global health initiatives (GHIs) and domestic financing to advance universal health coverage (UHC).
Key points of the roadmap include:
- Strengthening primary health care and health systems
- Catalyzing action on domestic financing
- Improving health equity and coordination among GHIs
- Enhancing approaches to health products, research, and regional manufacturing
The roadmap, part of the Lusaka Agenda, will be refined and presented to ministers of health at the WHO Regional Committee for Africa in August. This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable health financing and UHC in Africa.
