What financing mechanisms are needed to make universal health insurance a reality in Burkina Faso ?
The issue was the focus of a public conference held in Ouagadougou. Discussions took place between healthcare professionals and students on a master’s degree in healthcare facility management. In turn, the speakers recalled the long march (from 2007 to 2022) towards universal health insurance, not forgetting to mention the initiatives taken by the Government of Burkina Faso, the most emblematic of which are free healthcare and family planning, and care for the indigent in four health regions.

These are: direct access to healthcare ; basic healthcare coverage for vulnerable populations; and the pooling of financial resources to achieve this.
