In Indonesia, BPJS Kesehatan is a social security agency which manages national health insurance or Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN).
To increase health insurance coverage and social health protection among the population, BPJS Kesehatan has expanded the coverage of JKN membership through collaborations with 30 ministries/agencies and local governments. This collaboration has been reinforced by Presidential Regulation Number 1 of 2022 related to collaboration in the implementation of JKN.
In addition, the JKN expansion has been included in the National Medium-Term Development Plan 2024, aiming to reach 98 percent of the total population.
