In New Zealand, health reform is one of the main focuses of the Government. COVID-19 showed how critical a prepared health system is to protect New Zealanders and support their wellbeing. The budget will make significant investments including establishments of the new entities that will replace District Health Boards.
In addition, the budget will begin to apply a multi-year approach to funding the health sector. At the beginning, it will be a two-year funding path. From 2024 onwards, a three-year funding plan will be applied in line with New Zealand’s first Health Plan.
