Burkina Faso has just launched its first generic drug manufacturing plant. What does this mean for the country?
The plant, which cost 15 billion CFA francs, currently manufactures three generic medicines, including paracetamol. It will eventually offer a dozen other drugs. BBC Afrique spoke to Dr. Palingwindé Coéfé, Managing Director of the pharmaceutical production company Propharm, who, given the plant’s production capacity, plans to supply the countries of the UEMOA (West African Economic and Monetary Union).
