On Thursday August 26, 2021, the Caisse nationale d’assurance maladie universelle (CNAMU) handed out 1,115 insurance cards to indigent people in Ouahigouya, in the Nord region.
These long-awaited cards will enable beneficiaries to obtain quality care free of charge, in Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS).
For Dr Yves Kinda, CNAMU Director General, universal health insurance covers all healthcare except specialty drugs and chronic illnesses. Cardholders can choose their health center from among 20 CSPSs.
According to him, services will start on September 1, 2021. The North is the fourth region where indigent people benefit from AMU cards after the Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre and Hauts-Bassins regions.
