A rise of population ageing leads to increase medical and care needs among older population in China. Local governments will start to pilot programmes next year to improve medical and care services for the elderly, with the goal of rolling out the scheme nationwide in 2023.
The National Health Commission (NHC) will be engaged in improving the pricing and payment systems for medical and home care services. The NHC is a cabinet-level executive department of the State Council (Central Government) which is responsible for formulating national health policies.
Following this policy, 15 of the 31 provinces, regions and municipalities in mainland China should start the local pilot schemes by next year.
The pilot programmes aim to enhance the number of medical facilities for older people as well as the number of geriatricians or medical doctors specialized in care for older adults. To read more, please click.
