The article presents the results of a study conducted by Banco de la República, according to which resources may be sustainable if the economy increases and efficiency is strengthened in the Health Service Provider Institutions (IPS).
According to the Banco de la República report, it will be necessary to generate resources equivalent to 6.8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to maintain health benefits in 2030. These estimates do not include infrastructure, public health and prevention expenditures.
Projections include the effect of an aging population, increased demand for services, and improved access to marginalized population groups in Colombia’s healthcare system. Added to this is the impact that the proposal to equalize benefits between the contributory and subsidized plans would have.
