Conakry: Prime Minister launches medical coverage for government employees and pensioners

On August 7, 2024, the Prime Minister launched medical coverage for Guinean civil servants and pensioners, an initiative carried out by the Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale (CNPS). This reform, in force since August 1, marks a major step forward for the well-being of civil servants.

The new health coverage system offers a complete basket of care, including consultations, nursing care, hospitalization, general medicine, biology tests, medical imaging procedures and essential pharmaceutical products. Agreements have been signed with various health establishments across the country to guarantee universal access to quality care, regardless of where beneficiaries live.

During the ceremony he presided over in Conakry, the Prime Minister recalled, for his part, that “health is central to improving the human development index in Guinea.”

Colonel Aminata Diallo, Director of CNPS, recalled the aim of this initiative which is “to ensure a clear understanding of the mechanisms of operation, coverage, and eligibility for this health cover, while highlighting the tangible benefits for beneficiaries.”

Abdoulaye Camara, representative of the Guinean trade union movement, expressed his satisfaction, stressing that “this health cover represents the end of a doubt concerning deductions from the salaries of civil servants and pensioners.”

It should be noted that the CNPS’s mission encompasses the coverage of risks linked to illness, occupational and non-occupational accidents, as well as maternity for public employees and their dependants.
