Congo: In front of the National Assembly, the Head of Government promises better healthcare investment

Extract from the speech presenting the government’s action program delivered by the Congolese Prime Minister to the nation’s elected representatives on Monday, June 21, 2021:

The government’s strategic objective is to make quality basic healthcare available and accessible to all Congolese, to revitalize the health districts and to initiate hospital reform.

On the subject of health facilities, the President of the Republic has made it a point of honor to complete the 12 general hospitals and the army training hospital during this five-year period. The NKombo general hospital in Brazzaville and the Patra general hospital in Pointe-Noire, currently being equipped, will soon be accessible to the general public. The same applies to the Army Training Hospital. A new management method will be proposed for these establishments. The equipment installed is state-of-the-art.  It entails major maintenance costs that the French state cannot bear alone. The aim is to provide the Congolese people with quality care, and gradually eliminate the need for medical evacuations, which cost billions of CFA francs. This is an exorbitant charge for a service that we now have to offer our populations. We firmly believe this.

Finally, still on the health front, we need to implement universal health insurance. The aim is to give all Congolese access to healthcare services without the vagaries of financial difficulties. This is a major area for prevention, and one that requires us to pool our efforts.
