On March 23rd, a suite of legislation, known as the Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Bill 2020 and associated Bills, was passed in Australia. This contains bills to implement measures announced between March 12 and 22 of 2020. On April 8 a further suite of legislation was passed, known as Coronavirus Economic Response Package (Payments and Benefits) Bill 2020 and Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus (Measures No. 2) Bill 2020, to implement subsequent government announcements.
Most notably, this included the $130 billion wage subsidy (known as the “JobKeeper Payment”). – In each case, the suite of legislation included specific Appropriations Bills and allocations to the Advance to the Finance Minister (AFM).
