CSU in Burkina Faso: RAME makes the diagnosis

As part of the process of strengthening social mobilization to accelerate universal health coverage (UHC) in Burkina Faso that it has been undertaking since 2019, the Access to Essential Medicines Network (RAME) initiated a public conference this January 28, 2022.

It focused on the availability of human resources and quality infrastructure in Burkina Faso’s march towards CSU, and the role of communities in the process. The various presentations highlighted the low level and poor distribution of human resources in terms of healthcare provision.

The network, which opened the conference to a number of specialists and players in the field, including the Director General of the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie Universelle, believes that to achieve CSU, we need a solid healthcare system. This system should meet priority health needs at affordable costs, guarantee access to essential medicines and technologies, and above all have adequate infrastructures and a sufficient number of well-trained and well-distributed health personnel.
