Djibouti launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign
Djibouti launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign on 15 March 2021, after receiving its first shipment of the AstraZeneca SII vaccine earlier this month through the global COVAX facility, led by WHO in collaboration with UNICEF, Gavi and CEPI, for equitable vaccine distribution in developing countries.
The launching ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, who was the first to get vaccinated, sending a message of encouragement to all the citizens and urged them to do the same. Members of the government, especially the medical personnel, among other priority groups designated to receive the vaccine, received also their first dose during the ceremony. Officials are giving priority to vulnerable groups including the health care workers and elderly people with comorbidities.
