Effective execution of the health budget in Cochabamba is desired - P4H Network

Effective execution of the health budget in Cochabamba is desired

The public treasury budget for the health sector in Cochabamba has been determined. In previous years, part of the budget for the single health system was not executed. For this reason, the authorities suggest that, in 2025, this challenge should be overcome with effective management.

The Bolivian Ministry of Health and Sports announced that Cochabamba will have a budget of 85,182,047 Bolivianos for health in 2025, guaranteeing health care coverage for the population. However, more attention needs to be paid to the execution of resources as in previous years, it has been a challenge that has affected access to health services.

Since the implementation of the Unified Health System (SUS) in 2019, the municipalities of Cochabamba have not executed millions of Bolivianos allocated to health, which negatively impacts the capacity of the health system. The General Director of the National Health System, María Bolivia Rothe, highlighted that, although the non-executed resources lose their obligatory nature to be allocated to health, the Ministry continues to work to ensure that the necessary budget is in place to attend to the population.

This 2025 budget is crucial to improving the efficiency and sustainability of the health system in Cochabamba, and underscores the importance of effective resource management to ensure quality health care.
