Financing and role of countries in the Pandemic Treaty - P4H Network

Financing and role of countries in the Pandemic Treaty

According to the Minister of Health, Paraguay did not sign the Pandemics Treaty because “there was no clarity” on the issue of financing and the role of the countries.

The Minister of Health gave her report to the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies on the position taken by the official representation of Paraguay during the 77th World Health Assembly, held in Brussels. He explained that the draft Pandemic Treaty did not clearly state what Paraguay and other countries should contribute. The creation of new structures was also not officially approved by the country, as the roles of the countries were not clear.

However, he stressed the need for a Pandemic Treaty and his commitment to continue working on it, as it is a guide for countries on how to act in the face of future pandemics.
