The Ministry of Health, with the support of WHO, is launching an Android app for reporting adverse drug reactions on Thursday, June 15, 2017. The ceremony will take place at LAICO Ouaga 2000 from 8am .
The WEB-Recognizing Adverse Drug Reactions (WEB-RADR) project is funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative and aims to improve public health through new technologies. Members of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) also contribute to the project through in-kind contributions. The project has successfully implemented three mobile reporting applications (apps) in the UK, the Netherlands and Croatia to support adverse event reporting and the provision of drug safety information to app users and drug regulatory authorities. The app enables patients and healthcare professionals to report drug side effects in real time, track previously reported information and receive official news and alerts for drugs of interest.
The WEB-RADR project is committed to providing a package that enables the application to be used in other countries in addition to those that have deployed the application through the project. Thanks to collaboration with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) security and vigilance team, it has been agreed to pilot the application using cell phones. in Burkina Faso and Zambia. This offered the potential to meet an unmet need for data collection on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) from malaria control programs and general drug use in middle- and low-income countries.
