Funding boost supports ongoing Māori COVID-19 response in New Zealand

New Zealand government raised a budget of $38 million to support Māori Health providers, aiming to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and boost the vaccination rates of the Māori population.

Out of the total budget, $17 million will be funded to support the providers for the adaptation of current services, while maintaining the essential health services.

While $14 million of this funding will ensure whānau, especially those living in hard-to-reach areas, are able to access testing, vaccinations, medications, and other essential health services.

Another $3 million will be invested in a mass media campaign as well as community programs.

An additional $2 million will ensure providers can operate through the long outbreak and prepare for outbreaks in the future. To read more, please click.
