Ensuring gender equity in health financing is crucial for achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Women often face disproportionate barriers to accessing healthcare due to economic disparities, social norms, and limited decision-making power. A recent blog by Amref Health Africa highlights global strategies to address these challenges, emphasising the need for gender-responsive financing mechanisms.
Countries like Rwanda, Thailand, and India have implemented successful models, including community-based health insurance and targeted subsidies, to improve women’s access to essential services such as maternal and reproductive healthcare. However, persistent structural barriers demand stronger commitments to inclusive policies.
The upcoming Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) 2025 will bring together global stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions for integrating gender considerations into health financing. As nations refine their policies, prioritising gender-responsive health financing remains key to ensuring equitable, high-quality healthcare for all.
