In Philippines, Filipinos aged 60 years old and above who currently are not covered by the PhilHealth and do not have a regular source of income are now mandatorily covered under PhilHealth. While their annual premium contributions will be subsidized by the government using the sin tax.
PhilHealth has partnered with the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in the local government to facilitate the registration for the elderly Filipinos. Senior citizens who are qualified only need to submit the PhilHealth member registration form to the OSCA where they live and wait for the notification from the PhilHealth.
From January to June 2021, PhilHealth has paid totally P9.408 billion to benefit claims from the elderly members. The top medical conditions paid for the benefit claims were community-acquired pneumonia, hypertension, cerebral infarction or stroke, urinary tract infection, and congestive heart failure.
