Togo benefits from grants from the 7th funding round of the Global Fund (GC7) to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and Covid 19 (C19RM), for the period 2024-2026. The announcement was made on Wednesday February 28 in Lomé, at a workshop launched by the Prime Minister, Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé.
The new subsidy amounts to 112.8 million euros (74 billion FCA), an increase of 14% on the previous cycle. In addition, additional and reinvestment funds worth 19.37 million euros (12.7 billion FCFA) have been approved for 2024-2025. During the previous grant cycle, Togo benefited from an envelope of 98.9 million euros (around 64.9 billion FCFA) for the period 2021-2023.
These additional funds will support the government’s efforts in the area of healthcare, with expectations in terms of results. This funding from GC7 and C19RM renews the national programs to combat HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, and the Centrale d’Achats des Médicaments Essentiels et Génériques du Togo (CAMEG-TOGO). It aims to reinforce the progress made in the fight against malaria and accelerate the provision of quality prevention and care services to combat the HIV and tuberculosis epidemics.
Global Fund representative Caty FALL, wife of SOW, Head of the Africa and Middle East Department, congratulated the Togolese government on honouring its funding commitments and pledges, which testify to the importance attached to the health sector.
