Mongolia‘s Health insurance agency monitors whether healthcare organizations are transparently posting information on access to care for the public. Since December of last year, the Health Insurance Agency has been working with providers to ensure the law on transparency of public information was implemented and if sufficient information was provided to insured citizens.
The Health Insurance General Office, which is the health insurance agency of Mongolia, has been working in the capital’s primary health care organizations, hospitals and pharmacies since December 2023 to monitor information transparency for the public. The single payer was monitoring whether sufficient and accurate information was available for the public.
An example of monitoring outcome from a hospital named HUDNE was that this hospital introduced the possibility of easy and fast payment of health insurance premiums through a mobile phone application. The most frequently asked questions by insured citizens were about incomplete information on the size of health insurance premiums, incomplete payment information, instructions on how to check the status of paid premiums, online payment for previously underpaid years and months, and the types of healthcare services covered by the health insurance fund. During its monitoring activities, the health insurance agency found out that the price information was not updated and requested to update this and provide the insured citizens with the latest information.
Another example was a pharmacy, the branch of Monos Pharmacy located in the 19th district, which did not have a section to get information about health insurance. Therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has instructed them to immediately place the materials that are distributed free of charge in a place that is visible to the visitors.
A third example shared by the the health insurance agency was the Morton branch of AsiaPharm pharmacy. They made accessible a variety of information about health insurance to the public, including the list of discounted drugs, dosages, and payment information. They also provided detailed information about the drugs provided under the special arrangement with Novartis.
It is remarkable that the health insurance agency of Mongolia is monitoring the accessibility of information to the public to make sure the insured people know how to access and use their benefits.
