In January 2021, Benin’s deputies, in their review of Law 2020-37 on the protection of personal health in the Republic of Benin, created a third chapter comprising three articles on compulsory health insurance.
Article 16 of this new chapter stipulates that health insurance is compulsory for all persons residing on national territory. This compulsory health insurance guarantees a basket of treatments, the margins of which are defined by a decree issued by the Council of Ministers.
