Health system measures in Mauritius – COVID-19 – June 2020

The health system measures put into place in Mauritius to contain the spread of COVID-19 are:

*June 4: Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, presented the National Budget 04 June 2020. In a joint statement, PM Jugnauth affirmed that the priority of Budget 2020/2021 is to revive the Mauritian economy amid the Covid-19 pandemic and give a new impetus to most affected sectors such as agriculture and tourism.
*May 15: The COVID-19 Quarantine Bill was adopted by the National Assembly after three days of deliberations. It seeks to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19 infection, and step up the preparedness and response of the country to any future pandemic.
*April 27: Mauritius rolled out its mass testing, with the aim to screen over 100 000 people over the next two weeks. Mass testing with immediate quarantine of infectious people and their contacts would allow the lockdown to be gradually released while protecting lives and controlling the epidemic.
*April 5: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Nandcoomar Bodha, announced that between April 9-19, Air Mauritius will fly daily to China, to recover 231 tonnes of medical equipment including, masks, protective suits, medicines, thermometers and other health devices.
*March 2: Operational Plan on COVID -19 prepared by the Ministry of Health and Wellness was circulated to all stakeholders inclusive of the media, private sector, ministries and departments, the port and the airport.
