Health system measures in Morocco – COVID-19 – July 2020

The health system measures put into place in Morocco to contain the spread of COVID-19 are:

* 25 June: sanitary inspections for incoming passengers will take place in ports and international airports.

* 15 June: medical equipment produced in Morocco is progressively sent to Mauritania, Senegal, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Cameroon, Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo and Eswatini. In total, 8 million masks, 30000 liters of hydrogel or 60000 protective gears will be shipped, using Royal Air Maroc planes.

* 10 June: 10 million masks are produced daily. Morocco has already constituted a national strategic reserve of about 70 million units (including 20 million reusable). Between 21 May and 9 June, 18,5 million masks have been exported abroad. Wearing masks remain mandatory in public spaces.

* 9 June: a mobile testing lab has been established in the region of Casablanca

* As of 3 June, a national testing campaign was launched to detect potential cases in the private sector. The campaign covers approximately 300000 employees.

* As of 18 May, more than 2,2 billion dirhams were allocated to the purchase of mediacal equipments from the Special Covid-19 Fund (743 ICU beds, 664 hospital beds and 348 ventilators)

* The King ordered the deployment of military medical resources. New military hospital buildings are under construction. According to the Ministry of Health, the country has three screening centres. Screening will also be extended to University Hospitals and health establishments to ensure full territorial coverage. Prices of hydro-alcoholic gels are regulated by official decree.
*April 13: Morocco has exceeded the production of 3.2 million medical masks per day reaching a total of 13 million (to 13 April).
*March 27: The Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani, declared that the health authorities are making efforts to counter the effects of the coronavirus, by increasing the number of intensive care units to 3000, along with the acquisition of a number of artificial respiratory devices.
