The health system measures put into place in Poland to contain the spread of COVID-19 are:
On March 8, the authorities unlocked 23.3 million EUR (98 million PLN) additional funding for hospitals. In cases when patients’ health was at risk, qualified pharmacists were allowed to issue prescriptions for pharmaceuticals directly. On March 13, 19 hospitals in Poland were transformed into dedicated centres for patients infected with coronavirus. On March 19, the Government announced an additional 7,5 billion PLN package for the health sector. On April 8, the government announced that further investments would be made in the health care sector, drawing from available EU Funds. Poland dedicated PLN 550 million from the Infrastructure and Development Programme for the purchase of health care equipment. Extra funds for personal protection equipment were also made available to rescue services, fire services, police and the railway sector.
