Health system measures in Romania – COVID-19 – July 2020

The health system measures put into place in Romania to contain the spread of COVID-19 are:

On 6 April, the government endorsed some new support measures to be financed from European funds, including risk bonuses of EUR 500 per month for the medical staff in direct contact with the coronavirus (EUR 100 million), financial support to quarantine centers (EUR 30 million) and the purchase of medical and protective equipment (EUR 350 million).
Between 24 March and 15 May, the hospitalizations and consultations in outpatient structures of public and private hospitals that are not urgent have been suspended.
The budgets of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have increased by RON 392 million and RON 100 million respectively. A loan of maximum RON 1.15 billion will be allocated to the state-owned company UNIFARM for the emergency purchase of sanitary equipment. A mobile hospital was built near Bucharest to accommodate potential COVID-19 patients and the ministry of Defence launched a recruitment campaign of medical staff.
