Health system measures in the Netherlands – COVID-19 – July 2020

The health system measures put into place in the Netherlands to contain the spread of COVID-19 are:

20 May:
– Purchase and distribution and sale of medical devices (protective gear, ventilators etc) (680million)

– Vaccine research contribution (CEPI) (50 million)

– Research on long-term opportunities to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus and to accelerate the recovery of the Dutch population (20 million)

– Training additional healthcare personnel to provide care to corona patients (23 million).

– other COVID19 related health care measures (27 million)
’28. April: The number of IC beds has been temporarily increased to 2400, of which 1900 are planned for Covid-19 patients.
1. March:
– National association for intensive care called on hospitals to upscale IC beds from 1100 to a maximum: 2400 beds. This is still too low in the most likely scenario according to the National institute of Public Health/ national association of nurses says has stated that caring for patients in 2400 beds will be unfeasible given the lack of medical staff.
