In 2020, the University of Costa Rica began a study, through research by the School of Public Health (ESP) and the Center for Research and Training in Public Administration, to investigate the market in order to understand how resources are invested in the health of Costa Ricans. Costa Rica’s healthcare system is recognized worldwide for being included in the nation’s social security system, financed by the nation’s budget. In this context, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) has a health insurance coverage of over 90% (INEC, 2012), which significantly supports universal access to health care.
