The Global Burden of Disease Report provides data on the changes in the epidemiological profile in Mozambique. While communicable diseases continue to represent the bulk of mortality and morbidity in the country, its relevance is significantly decreasing over time. Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), especially those related to Cardio-Vascular diseases, are increasingly appearing as causes of morbi-mortality in Mozambique.
It is especially relevant to observe the change in the risks related to mortality and morbidity (chart): While classical risks such as undernutrition or unsafe water have diminished, new risks such as high Body Mass Index (+62%) and dietary risks have gained prominence in the last decade.
Prevention can be an efficient strategy, in a context of increasing financial burden related to chronic and NCD.
