The Inter-ministerial Steering Committee guiding the development of Tanzania’s Health Financing Strategy was reported by the chair of the Health Financing Technical Working Group to have met for the last time on Friday 4th December 2015. It approved the overall strategy draft with concrete requests for certain amendments to still be made and the costing to be reviewed. With this it passed on further responsibility on finalising the Strategy to the Ministry of Health which will conduct the necessary changes internally and revise the costing. A legislative review will be organised at the same time, with support of WHO, to inform the design of the legal framework for the creation of the Single National Insurer and to feed into the cabinet paper draft for the SNHI legislation.
Once this work has been endorsed by the Permanent Secretary of the MOHSW (expected early 2016) the cabinet submission process for the SNHI will be initiated.
