President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the implementation of the second stage of the project to modernize oncological hospitals with the help from Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in 2022-2026.
The cost of the project is about $122 million, including: the construction, reconstruction and modernization of cancer centers, the purchase of over 110 types of medical and diagnostic equipment, as well as the education and training of oncological service specialists.
The $80 million loan agreement to finance the project was signed on September 4, 2021 for 20 years, including a grace period of five years.
The Ministry of Health will control the timely implementation and coordination of the project, as well as the targeted and effective use of IDB funds. The authorities will cover the repayment of the loan, as well as VAT on goods purchased and imported under the project at the expense of the republican budget of Uzbekistan. Earlier, a Center for Pediatric Oncology was opened in Tashkent based on Russian best practice experience.
