The P4H Network participated in the Health System Strengthening-Accelerator in Asia cocreation series workshop held in Jakarta in early June. P4H co-led one of the workstreams on domestic financing for health policy and systems research institutions in Asia.
The Ministry of Health of Indonesia and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Asia Bureau hosted the Health Systems Strengthening-Accelerator (HSSA) cocreation series workshop for Asia from 5 through 7 June 2024 in Jakarta. The workshop was coordinated by Results for Development and funded by USAID. More than 80 participants representing 17 countries attended the workshop, and the P4H Network was invited to attend.
Engagement of the P4H Network in a specific workstream
Since 2019, the P4H Network has engaged in the HSSA cocreation series by coleading the workstream to develop a framework that assesses and increases domestic financing for health policy and systems research institutions (HSPRIs) in Asia. P4H has done this work with the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research. Seoul National University, a member of the P4H Network, is a project-implementing partner that has further promoted collaboration with HPSRIs in the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Viet Nam.
Participants also discussed and confirmed the validity of policy and collaborative research models in participating countries. All the models presented emphasized the need for closer collaboration between researchers; decision makers would support and strengthen the effort to supply evidence to policymakers. Experiences shared were from regional networks such as Dragon Net, the Asia and Pacific Regional Network, the Southeast Asia Collaborative for Health, Emerging Researcher engaged in Asia Pacific Regional Network, the Asia eHealth Information Network, Virtual-Health Promotion Network, the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage, the Asia-Pacific Network for Health System Strengthening, and the P4H Leadership for UHC programme (L4UHC).
Next steps and opportunities
Workshop participants developed and presented priority actions for their countries to improve and strengthen health policy and research collaboration. While promoting networking in Asia, the senior health systems advisor of the P4H Coordination Desk, Bayarsaikhan Dorjsuren, participated in individual session discussions and group work activities and contributed to overviews of day two. The P4H Network has comparative advantage to advance these priority actions.
