Japan plans for fiscal year 2022 total 111 trillion yen to control COVID-19

Due to a rise of social security expenditures, budget requests from government ministries and agencies reach 111 trillion yen ($1 trillion) in total for fiscal 2022. Social security costs accounted for one-third of government expenditures.

The health ministry requested a record 33.945 trillion yen for the next fiscal year, 807 billion yen more than its initial request made last year for fiscal 2021. Another 660 billion yen of the social securiy expenditure has been added because the older baby boomers have entered the mid-70s. In addition, there is the possibility to request more funds allocating to medical centers, COVID-19 testing, and national vaccination program based on the pandemic situation. To read more, click.
