Japan plans to increase wage for care workers and nurses

Japan plans to increase wage for care workers, nursery school staffs, and nurses under the new stimulus package. The expected total budget for the stimulus package is greater than 30 trillion yen, aiming to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 through boosting economic growth and reducing the wealth disparities.

In Japan, average earning income per month, including extra pays, was 352,000 yen in the year 2020. However, care workers and nursery school staffs were paid averagely at 293,000 yen and 303,000 yen per month, respectively. Thus, their salaries are currently insufficient compared to other industries and will be increased by 3 percent in February 2022.

Meanwhile, average monthly income of nurses is higher than other sectors. Thus, the pay will be limited to raise among those who work in the key medical facilities and emergency care.

The government plans to pass this supplementary budget to fund this package by the end of this year. To read more, please click.
